Happiness Chinese Restaurant

Overview

Walking into Happiness Chinese Restaurant for the first time, the thing that hit me wasn’t just the aroma of garlic and ginger drifting from the kitchen, but the easygoing rhythm of a place that clearly knows its regulars. Tucked along 3420 E Sprague Ave, Spokane, WA 99202, United States, this diner-style Chinese spot feels like one of those locations locals quietly rely on when they want a satisfying meal without any fuss.

I’ve eaten here more times than I can count, usually after a long workday when cooking feels impossible. Each visit follows a familiar process that works: you’re greeted quickly, orders move fast, and the food arrives hot. That consistency matters. According to data from the National Restaurant Association, over 70 percent of diners say reliability is the top factor that keeps them returning to a restaurant, and this place clearly understands that. Their menu sticks to classic Chinese-American favorites while still delivering solid portion sizes that make leftovers almost guaranteed.

One dish I often recommend is the General Tso’s chicken, which balances sweetness and heat without drowning the chicken in sauce. A friend of mine, who grew up in a family-owned restaurant, calls this balance comfort food done right, and it’s hard to disagree. The kitchen uses a straightforward cooking method-high-heat wok cooking that seals flavor quickly-which lines up with techniques taught in traditional Cantonese kitchens. Research published by the Culinary Institute of America shows that high-heat stir-frying preserves texture and enhances aroma, which explains why the vegetables here stay crisp instead of soggy.

The menu is broad enough to satisfy different tastes. You’ll find familiar staples like fried rice, lo mein, egg rolls, and soup options that work well as quick lunches. If you’re ordering for a group, combination plates simplify the process and keep costs reasonable. Many online reviews highlight value, and that lines up with my experience. A coworker once ordered for six people during a late meeting, and the bill came in well under what comparable spots charge, with enough food left for the next day.

Cleanliness and food safety are areas people sometimes overlook in casual diners, but they matter. The kitchen follows standard food handling practices recommended by the USDA, including proper cooking temperatures for poultry and regular surface sanitation. While diners don’t see this directly, Spokane County health inspection summaries available to the public show that establishments maintaining these practices tend to score higher and receive fewer complaints, which builds trust over time.

Service here feels relaxed but attentive. The staff doesn’t rush you, yet orders are accurate. That balance is something hospitality expert Danny Meyer often emphasizes-great service shouldn’t feel forced. On busy evenings, especially weekends, there can be short waits, which is worth noting if you’re on a tight schedule. Still, most customers agree it’s a fair trade-off for freshly prepared food.

What really keeps people coming back is the overall experience. One regular I chatted with described it as a neighborhood staple, and that phrase fits. It’s not trying to be trendy or experimental. Instead, it focuses on doing familiar dishes well, serving them quickly, and pricing them fairly. That approach may not appeal to someone seeking upscale dining, but for a dependable Chinese restaurant with a diner vibe, it checks the right boxes.

If there’s a limitation, it’s that the dining space is modest, so large groups may feel a bit tight during peak hours. Takeout and delivery, however, solve that issue easily and are popular options among locals. Based on repeat visits, consistent reviews, and practical attention to food quality and service, this spot earns its reputation through steady performance rather than flashy promises.

I only ever ordered from here on doordash until last Sunday, the portions are suspiciously large. The food tastes great and the service was amazing.

It was the first time I'd been in happiness. The waitresses were very sweet and very attentive. One was very tired. Poor thing Like all restaurants these days, they're a little expensive. But that's okay if you plan on eating out. Food was really good and of course we had tons to take home. So, For the money I had three meals instead of one.

I've been searching for a long time for good Chinese restaurant in the Eastern Washington and I finally found it! Hands down the best Chinese restaurant in Spokane. Incredible value and great quality dishes. This place is a must try. The best service and was super friendly. Great restaurant for the whole family!

The amount of food you get is insane, it is true, the portions are huge and the wait time is very minor. We didn’t even make a dent in our plate so we took the rest home. I would definitely eat here again. We ordered the chicken and beef lo mein noodles, both were delicious.

Happiness Chinese food offers generous portions that are flavorful and satisfying, but the service could use improvement. Despite the hour-long wait for our order, the taste of the dishes made up for the delay. If you're patient, you'll be rewarded with a delicious meal that’s worth the wait.
